Cornelis

Cornelis is a mythical figure who is half a fisherman and half a rambler. With his sailing vehicle he turns up in places where old stories are threatened by demolition , excavator or oblivion. Cornelis saves precious memories where neighborhoods are demolished , dikes are punched out, land is reclaimed or industrial areas are advancing.

Cornelis rescues old stories by catching them in big jars. He cherishes the stories, and keeps them alive by showing them to anybody who might be interested. He is using a small projector that is hidden under the solar panels of his sailing vehicle.

In the hold of his sun-sailing-ship he keeps some really old ‘Zuiderzee’ stories, but his collection is growing more and more as he is travelling to many places these days.

In December 2013 the opening night of the show was at Prins te Paard’s home base in Nagele. In 2014 Cornelis showed up as a streetact during various festivals, including Oerol and Mooi Weer Spelen in Delft. On festival Onderstroom in Vlissingen Cornelis won the first prize for the best streetact. In 2015 Cornelis and his illustrious solar-powered vehicle will travel to festivals again.

custom made and in the streets

Cornelis is available as a roaming streetact for festivals or as a custom made location performance .

A custom made location performance was played fall 2014 on the floodplains in Brummen where an ancient farm had to make way for the River IJssel.

solarship

The three-wheeled vehicle of Cornelis is completely self-sufficient. In the sun, 4 solar panels of 200 watts each and an electric motor of 750 watt move the car non-stop. Silently and with a top speed of 15 km per hour! But even in the dark Cornelis is able to drive around: when the batteries are charged, the range is about 5 km .
